Rider Q and A

Q&A with Lorena Wiebes

This month we asked you on our social media channels if you had any questions for fast-woman Lorena Wiebes. After returning back from a training ride under the beautiful spring sun, Lorena sat down to answer our favourites!

Q: When did you start cycling and what got you into it?

A: I started cycling because of my dad; he did triathlon and then road cycling. First I did some cyclocross races at the local club, later some national races and when I was u17 I started on the road. At first I didn’t really like doing road but after a few races I got into it fully!

Q: What’s your favourite race and why?

A: I think my favourite race is now the Amstel Gold Race, but it’s also possibly Flanders too. I haven’t done the race yet in my career, but I’m looking forward to ride it one day!

Q: What’s your biggest goal for the future and what are you going to do to try and achieve it?

A: My biggest goal for the future are the Olympics in Paris in 2024. In the meantime though I want to win as many races and work on my weaker points with the team to be as strong as possible on the bike, which will also hopefully make my sprint stronger too.

Q: Who is your favourite teammate? (Asked by Julia Soek!)

We have a really nice group of riders in the team and we all get along well. In normal times we can have some nice bbq and stuff like that at the KCC [Keep Challenging Center]. I spend the most time with Floortje and Julia. Last winter we went for a month in Spain training and living together, and we are still friends so that’s a good thing haha!
