Hat-trick of wins for Team DSM as Charlotte Kool and Lorena Wiebes go 1-2

Simac Ladies Tour

After taking back-to-back wins in the opening two stages, Team DSM completed an incredible hat-trick of victories at Simac Ladies Tour after a dominant lead out saw Charlotte Kool sprint to first with Lorena Wiebes second.

In control throughout the day, the original break was caught heading into 25 kilometres go after some good work by Elise Uijen and Leah Kirchmann. A flurry of attacks followed with the team once again riding brilliantly to mark them out and set up a fast finale. With Franziska Koch bringing the team forward, Pfeiffer Georgi took over with Charlotte Kool and Lorena Wiebes in tow, as they bided their time behind the opposition. Going under the flamme rouge they surged forwards and hit the front, with Wiebes moving ahead of Kool to act as last lead out. Putting the crown on a brilliant performance, Kool sprinted from Wiebes’ wheel who delivered her perfectly to take a superb win while Wiebes held on for second place – making for a dominant Team DSM display.

Speaking after the stage a jubilant Kool said: “Today the team did amazing again, they did so well and they were all so strong. Elise had some super legs and managed to counter many attacks and keep us in front on the key moments, with Leah helping. Then the finale went so well with Franzi coming just in time and Pfeiffer timing her efforts perfectly. Then Lorena did a massive lead out out by switching super late before the last corner and the only thing I had to do was finish off the amazing teamwork today. Three wins in a row is really special and especially how the team managed to keep the control over the day – it’s just a honour to finish it off like this.”

Team DSM coach Albert Timmer added: “We talked about it last week already that today we would go for Charlotte if everything went to plan – and it did. We made a really nice plan for the lead out. We also needed to take into account that Lorena was and should still be in the leader’s jersey. In general she’s also the rider all the other sprinters watch so we had to be sharp on how we solved that. I think we did that all in a good way. To come first and second on the stage, we can be really happy and proud. Everyone played their part today, it was great to see.”
