Despite only being 26 years old, Floortje is now into her ninth year with Team DSM and is one of the more experienced riders on the roster. In 2019 she continued her development, improving her abilities on the climbs, taking a memorable second place at Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

“It was so cold and raining heavily but it was really good to finish the day off with a podium spot in Liège. I think I’m still a classics rider, but I can be there when there is a bit of a hilly finale. I am doing a lot more climbing training and I’ve definitely noticed an improvement because of that.”

Grateful for the opportunity to ride her bike professionally, Floortje loves being able to explore new places and enjoys taking in the nature and scenery when out for a ride. Although, she jokingly admits that it is not as nice when the weather is bad.

Floortje likes the team aspect of the sport with everyone willing to work for each other towards one common goal and is unfazed when she gets the opportunity to lead herself.

“It is nice to see that when someone who is working for you is performing really well, so you then happily do that for them too and return the favour; it is really nice to win with each other. I feel a little pressure when others are working for me but if I am in good shape then it gives me an extra motivational boost too.”

While not riding her bike Floortje likes to chill and enjoy her downtime as much as possible, spending time with family and friends, including best friend and former teammate, Julia Soek!
