Originally a football player, Leon made the switch to cycling at the U15 level after a neighbour introduced him to the sport. He instantly fell in love with both the adrenaline of racing but also the freedom of the open road when out training.
After spending four years in the team’s Development program, 2022 sees Leon make the step up to the WorldTour with the Men’s program, something that Leon approaches in his reserved and humble manner.
Picking up third on GC at Tour Alsace and second overall at Circuit des Ardennes, races where he claimed the win in the young rider classification, has given Leon more confidence that he is on the right trajectory. However, it’s not just the results that he is focused on.
Due to the relatively recent rule change, Leon has also had the chance to already experience racing with the Men’s program in 2021 competing in races such as the Tour of the Alps and Okolo Slovenska – experience he thinks will be valuable in the coming years.
Off the bike, Leon enjoys socialising with the rest of the guys at the Keep Challenging Center or visiting family and friends at home.
